The good news is... …protection and care for the vulnerable When Jesus welcomed children, it probably looked sweet—but in his time it was radical. Children had little status, and the disciples tried to send them away. Instead, Jesus welcomed them, once again turning social expectations upside down. Throughout scripture, God calls people to care for the vulnerable—the immigrant, the widow, and the orphan. By lifting up children, Jesus reminds us that we have all been vulnerable at some point in our lives. Living the good news means not only protecting the vulnerable, but helping them thrive. The good news is… inspiring us to act. During Passover, Roman leaders often staged triumphal parades to display power and control. Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem offers a striking contrast. Instead of wealth and military might, he arrives in humility, welcomed by ordinary people—the poor, the hungry, the hopeful. The crowd responds with joy, laying down cloaks and waving palm branches as they shout “Hosanna.” As we place ourselves in that crowd during Holy Week, we’re invited to ask: how will the good news move us, and how will we live out Jesus’ teachings today? Our service will be live-streamed from Atonement Lutheran Church starting at 10:45 AM. Click on the image above to watch the live stream.
