The good news is... …protection and care for the vulnerable When Jesus welcomed children, it probably looked sweet—but in his time it was radical. Children had little status, and the disciples tried to send them away. Instead, Jesus welcomed them, once again turning social expectations upside down. Throughout scripture, God calls people to care for the vulnerable—the immigrant, the widow, and the orphan. By lifting up children, Jesus reminds us that we have all been vulnerable at some point in our lives. Living the good news means not only protecting the vulnerable, but helping them thrive. The good news is… rooted in justice, mercy, and faithfulness. As we move toward Holy Week, we see how Jesus’ ministry increasingly challenged religious leaders who prioritized strict legal interpretation. When a woman caught in adultery is brought before him, her accusers demand judgment according to the law. Instead of fueling the spectacle, Jesus invites them to examine their own sin, and the crowd disperses. In this moment, Jesus reminds us that faithful interpretation of the law must be rooted in justice and mercy. As we wrestle with our own rules and traditions, we can ask: What is the most just, merciful, and faithful response? Our service will be live-streamed from Cross of Glory Lutheran Church starting at 8:30 AM. Click on the image above to watch the live stream. The good news is… inspiring us to act. During Passover, Roman leaders often staged triumphal parades to display power and control. Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem offers a striking contrast. Instead of wealth and military might, he arrives in humility, welcomed by ordinary people—the poor, the hungry, the hopeful. The crowd responds with joy, laying down cloaks and waving palm branches as they shout “Hosanna.” As we place ourselves in that crowd during Holy Week, we’re invited to ask: how will the good news move us, and how will we live out Jesus’ teachings today? Our service will be live-streamed from Atonement Lutheran Church starting at 10:45 AM. Click on the image above to watch the live stream.
